Hoàn Kiếm Lake and the old quarter north of it: "Hàng …" streets named after goods, and Đồng Xuân market.

Where it is

Since 1 July 2025 the former wards of Hàng Bạc, Hàng Bồ, Hàng Buồm, Hàng Đào, Hàng Gai, Hàng Mã, Lý Thái Tổ and parts of their neighbours have been merged into Hoàn Kiếm ward. The blocks south of the lake — Hàng Bài, Phan Chu Trinh, Trần Hưng Đạo — are now Cửa Nam ward.

The old quarter

The old quarter covers about 100 ha. Most street names are "Hàng" plus the goods once sold there: Hàng Bạc is silver, Hàng Mã paper goods, Hàng Đào silk. "36 streets" is a conventional name for the old town, not a street count.

The lake

Ngọc Sơn temple stands on an islet by the northern shore, reached by the red wooden Thê Húc bridge. Turtle Tower is on a small island in the middle of the lake. Đồng Xuân market is about 2 km from the lake.

Getting around

Nội Bài airport is about 27.5 km by road.

Distances are by road, measured on OpenStreetMap in October 2026.
